Location | Wildsumaco Biological Station

Location

Wildsumaco Biological Station is southeast of Quito, across the Andes crest near the buffer zone of Sumaco National Park and International Biosphere Reserve. The closest communities are the tiny villages of Pacto Sumaco and Guagua Sumaco. WBS sits at about 1,400 m (4,600 ft) in elevation on the east slope of the Andes Mountains. Surrounding habitats include primary lower montane rain forest, as well as secondary forest and pasture land.

WBS is reached by vehicle in about six hours from Quito. Alternatively, one may arrange a short flight from Quito to Coca, from which WBS is about an hour’s drive west. Individuals or groups wishing to use the Station should inquire via bookings about reserving vehicle transport. Tour companies can provide transport for groups of any size, from vans to microbuses.
